Who We Are

Rural Collaboratives

What is a Rural Collaborative?

Rural Collaboratives are intermediary organizations that add the capacity, convening power, and resource
exchange required to increase access to college and career pathways on a regional scale so rural
communities can benefit from workforce and economic development.
Rural Collaboratives weave together the efforts of K-12 school districts, higher education systems, and
workforce development systems - producing promising early results on both student outcomes and
workforce development, and a model that can be adapted to serve many communities.

Three tenets guide rural collaborative work:

1. Rural Collaboratives are locally driven, build on existing strengths in their communities, and center sustainable
efforts to avoid initiative fatigue.

2. These partnerships design, expand, or enhance college and career pathways aligned to regional labor market
needs in their communities that no one stakeholder could provide on their own.

3. The ultimate goal of these collaborations is regional workforce and economic development.
